ecomodder.com – No, you didn’t read it incorrectly, they actually got 2,843 MPG. As I reported earlier, some of these competitions can net upwards of 7,000 MPG. However, somewhat unfortunately, those kinds of numbers haven’t been seen in the Shell Americas Eco-Marathon yet.

This year’s winning team’s 2,843 MPG shattered last year’s winning record of 1903 MPG. Obviously, there has been a lot a lot of improvement, but one of the most interesting things is that there were actually three teams with higher fuel economy numbers than the winners, but because the competition is more than just a final fuel economy number, they didn’t win.

What really sucks is if these high school kids can make a small model that gets 2,900 MPG, shouldn’t the big three with their combined money, engineering resources, and manpower come up with a car that gets 100 mpg?  Is it no wonder people think there is a conspiracy? – Proxima
