HOLLYWOOD – It’s the finals. David versus David. Let’s get ready…wait can’t say that it’s copyrighted. Let’s watch them duke it out.
Ok the boxing gear was definitely hokey. Each guys had three songs to perform. What is confusing is . . . why the boxing references?
Round 1
David Cook was up first with the U2 hit “Still Haven’t Found What I Was Looking For”. He sang it confidently, and his raspy voice contrasted with Bono’s. I thought he did good. Randy thought it was hot, and Paula thought we found David Cook. Simon thought it was phenomenial.
David Archuleta did Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Come Down on Me.” I’m still amazed where that singing voice comes from after hearing him talk. He did great. Randy thought it was molten hot, and Paula got chills. Simon thought it was the best he ever did, and declared round one Archuleta.
Round 2
Next was America’s song writer choice. “Dream Big” was given to David Cook. Blah, the song was so so, and David tried his best to pull it off. Randy thought similarly, Paula was mesmerized. Simon thought he made the most of a non-winning song.
Archuleta’s choice, “In This Moment,” was incredibly sappy. I didn’t like it all. Again, the performer tried his best to pull it off. Who wrote this crap? Randy thought he was in a zone despite the song, and Paula thought he was on fire. Simon thought he chose a better song…if true Simon it was crap that was less crap than the other song. Simon gave it to Archuleta.
Round 3
David Cook sang his choice, Collective Soul’s “The World I Know.” Its a favorite of mine, but was it a good choice? He did great, but it was not a knock out punch. Randy thought it was a nice job. Paula gave him a singular standing O. Simon thought it was a beautiful song, but the wrong choice of songs.
“Imagine” is David Archuleta’s favorite song, was one of mine till tonight. It’s a simple song, best left to John Lennon. Randy thought he was the best singer. Paula…thought he was stunning. Simon thought it was a knock out.
Both are good performers, but I disagree on the “Knockout”. Both performances were just ok. Will Simon’s praises backfire on David Archuleta?
